The Brickhouse Gallery is very excited for our artist closing out the year; Rosesharon Oates of Oakland, California sharing her unique collection of Pyrographic fine art with our Sacramento art community! Join us welcoming her, and celebrate the holidays too, with wine and some holiday treats, and music. Her exhibition will run from December 15, 2018 until January 27, 2019.

Meanwhile, here's a little background on our December featured artist.....

Rosesharon Oates is an Oakland based Artist and Activist.

She was born in New Orleans, LA and was raised by extended family, mainly on the East coast. Her community roots are now in Oakland, CA where she has lived & raised her son for the past 18 years.

Her unique medium of pyrography, (also known as wood burning,) involves detailed, ornate line work & shading on birch panels with a soldering iron, that is then colored with layers of acrylic washes to accentuate the natural grain and beauty innate in the wood.

Her work is deeply informed by her spiritual practice, particularly from the Orisha tradition, as well as Ancient Wisdom New Thought teachings. She is inspired by liberation movements and social justice themes, as well as visioning what peace looks like. She is particularly passionate about the divine nature of Women and the Divine Feminine Force, as it permeates all of creation. She aspires to empower and embolden women through her works.

Some of Rosesharon’s recent successes include a Staff Pick write up in the East Bay Express, as well an an Oakland Art Murmur opening at Temescal Studios. Rosesharon is a recipient of the City of Oakland’s Cultural Arts Funding Grant, which she is implementing toward her SheRose project, depicting Black and Brown women in leadership in Oakland & leading community workshops in the visual arts.
